The 5 th International Diabetes Summit 2021 was organized virtually by Chellaram Diabetes Institute from 12th March (Friday) – 14th March(Sunday) 2021.
Due to the on-going COVID pandemic and resultant restrictions on gatherings and travel, we conducted the IDS 2021 conference virtually.
The 3-day mega event comprised of a number of interesting sessions including Technology Symposium on CGM, Symposium on Diabetes Foot, Indo-US Symposium on Telediabetology, Symposium on Diabetes in Pregnancy etc. Moreover, a “Symposium on Management of Diabetic Retinopathy” was also part of our conference. Overall, crisp and updated knowledge was generated to the 5,300 delegates which would help them in their day to day practice. There was also a patient initiative called “Virtual Run for Diabetes” in which more than 1000 people, including many with type 1 and type 2 diabetes took part.
About 82 speakers from India, 23 international speakers from all over the world and 64 Moderators contributed to the success of this event. Though the conference was virtual, more than 5000 participants registered for the conference.
The Maharashtra Medical Council had awarded 6 Credit Points to the program.
The summit was a grand success with more than 5300 participants. We were fortunate to have the virtual presence of Dr Soumya Swaminathan, the first Chief Scientist of WHO, as the Chief Guest during the inauguration ceremony. Dr Soumya Swaminathan addressed the gathering live with her wonderful speech. Dr V Mohan, Chairman at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural ceremony who also addressed the gathering with his fascinating talk.
