The 4th International Diabetes Summit -2020 was organized by Chellaram Diabetes Institute from 6th – 8th March 2020 at Hotel J W Marriot, Pune.
The 3-day mega event comprised of a Pre-conference workshop on “In hospital glucose control” and various workshops like Insulin Pump workshop, AGP workshop as well as scientific sessions covering diabetes complications and its management in day to day life.
The summit was a grand success with more than 2600 registrations. The conference was inaugurated by the Chief guest Lt. General Dr Madhuri Kanitkar AVSM, VSM and eminent Pediatric Nephrologist and Guest of Honor Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, University Grants Commision. The release of CDI’s Handbook of In-patient Glucose Management was done during the inauguration. The inauguration of e-learning courses at the e-learning stall was done by Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan.

More than 50 speakers from India and 7 International faculty from US and Europe along with 120 Chairpersons contributed to the success of this event. Both the auditoriums and the workshop meeting rooms were jam packed with the participants who thronged the halls. The Maharashtra Medical Council had awarded 10 Credit Points to the program.
In view of preventive care for Corona Covid 19 infection, a special proactive screening unit equipped with Nursing staff, masks and sterilium was set up for all the three days of the Summit. A Self reporting form as approved by Ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India was duly filled by the delegates and faculty. Temperature screening with the help of Infrared thermometer was done and noted in the form. Ample stock of Sterilium sanitizers was placed at all possible places for use by delegates, stall personnel, Hotel staff, CDI staff and anyone visiting the conference.
For the Oral research presentations, 60 young researchers from all over India presented their research papers. “Chellaram Foundation Diabetes Research Award” which consisted of a medal and prize of Rs 100,000/- for the Best Outstanding Research Paper was awarded to Dr Vaibhav Pandya, Research Associate, NCL, Pune. The Chellaram Foundation had also announced a medal and a prize of Rs 10,000/- for the Best paper award in Clinical Science presentation which was divided and awarded to Dr Ranjana Sahasrabuddhe, Associate Professor, Pharmacology,BVDU Medical College, Pune and Ms. Latika Rohilla, Department of Pediatrics (diabetes and endocrinology unit) ,PGIMER, Chandigarh. The second best paper award in Clinical Science presentation which consisted of a medal, certificate and prize of Rs 8,000 was awarded to Dr Prachee Walke, SRF, NCL, Pune. Three Special Recognition Certificates and Medals were also given away to 3 other researchers to encourage their spirit towards research. Industry sessions and industry workshops also got overwhelming response. 41 stalls too witnessed an excellent support of our corporate partners. The 4th International Diabetes Summit was highly appreciated by the attending dignitaries and delegates from medical fraternity. The event was also covered widely in the print and media.
A new initiative – “Run for Diabetes” – a 3 km walk was organized in collaboration with Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation, A NGO which organizes various events such as monthly runs, rock climbing, sessions on low carb, dance workshops for patients with Diabetes. Ms. Nupur Lalwani, Certified Diabetes Educator and Certified Pump Trainer is the Founder Director of Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation and she herself is a Type 1 Diabetic. It was organized on 8th March 2020, Sunday from 6.30 am -7.0 am from JW Marriott gate. Nearly 80 type 1 and type 2 patients with diabetes along with their family members and CDI team participated in the 3 km walk. All the participants were given healthy snacks after the event. Dr. C. B. Sanjeevi and Dr. Unnikrishnan AG awarded certificates and medals to all the participants. The new initiative was well appreciated.
